The way we've always done before...

What beasts have we created,
That at the end, our own ideals are destroyed.

We owe so much to Nature who has nurtured our race.
Yet, we take it upon ourselves
To hack those brothers and sisters
Who cannot keep pace.

All we ever crave for is endless power.
When do we understand that,
Misused, all it does is
Drag us down lower and lower?

We consider ourselves the species that is wise;
Then does it make sense to gamble and throw the dice?

We breathe a sigh of relief when the predator is behind bars.
When he’s out in the open, only a handful is brave –
It is they who know that one amongst us
Has provoked the war.

We fight amongst ourselves to gain control
Of a world that is shattered and is no longer whole.
Should we concentrate on healing;
It will do more to fulfil our souls.

We slaughter them, who at times of need, have provided us with shade.
No wonder that without them, into oblivion we fade.

We laugh at others thinking they are weak;
They only smile, knowing that
One day, we ourselves will break.

Those among us who rob women and children of their lives and dignity;
Should they not be stripped of their own?
They are to society no more than a despicable malignity.

How long shall we keep our children behind closed doors all day?
As outside, it is not safe to play.
When all they should be learning is Nature’s ways.

The bonds we form come apart at the seams,
As we put in less and less effort to strengthen the beams.

Our relationships with our fellow beings wane
Once we start throwing our principles down the drain,
In spite of knowing that all it causes is pain.

All we seem to have learnt is to love to hate.
Little do we realise that in time,
We are paid back in our coin by fate.

We contemplate for each of us a wonderful future;
Do we really know – in fifty years,
Where we shall be, standing at this juncture?

As we relish our own vanity,
Many of us are slowly losing their sanity.

We are the makers of our own destiny;
For that, it is time we need to rise up in mutiny,
United against those who challenge our harmony
And those who oppress us with their tyranny.
